Australians tune in to support SBS-Austcare Cyclone Nargis Radiothon

VolunteersTakingCalls

Running from Sunday 1 June to Friday 13 June 2008, 13 SBS special language programs took part in the Cyclone Nargis Radiothon Appeal, spreading the word about the situation in Myanmar and asking Australian residents to dig deep and donate generously to help those in desperate need. Over $175,000 in donations and pledges was raised through the overall Austcare-SBS partnership, which included the Radiothon, a television community service announcement and online support!

Independent experts have estimated the number of dead and missing people at 200,000. 2.4 million people have been affected and need our ongoing support to survive this initial crisis period and rebuild their lives in the longer term. Please see our Myanmar Cyclone Appeal page for details on how donations are being spent to help those in need.

Pledges were made by listeners calling the station during the Radiothon period, with many people alternatively logging directly on to our web donation form and donating online . Austcare's thanks goes out to our team of dedicated volunteers who took pledge calls and direct phone donations during the broadcast periods. Please see SBSBroadcastFrequencyTablethe table to the right for SBS broadcast frequencies.
