Australians Ride for Water in Cambodia

Brett Spinucci and his team of 12 riders have committed to raising $12,000 on behalf of Austcare for clean drinking water in Cambodia through the ‘Ride for Water’ Campaign, which involves a two-week motorcycle expedition in late November 2008.

Brett and his team are no strangers to navigating the bustling towns and muddy roads of Cambodia. A reconnaissance trip was undertaken in 2007 to scout possible routes for this year’s ride. Battling torrential rain, knee-high mud, exhaustion and injuries, the group succeeded in planning a suitable route. While the evident need of the local communities was the driving motivation in bringing the group back, the humour and friendliness of the Cambodian people also helped.

Austcare has constructed a total of 83 wells in 43 villages across Cambodia to provide villagers with safe drinking water in areas that have been cleared of landmines. Brett and his friends were impressed by the practical and effective work of the Austcare team in Cambodia. This is one of the many reasons Austcare was chosen as the recipient of their fundraising efforts.

We wish Brett and his team a safe journey and all the best in raising much needed funds for clean drinking water in Cambodia. Check them out on their website www.rideforwater.com.au.
