Anyone can get involved with Austcare by doing fundraising activities. You can have a lot of fun, discover new skills and make new friends and contacts while helping Austcare to work with local communities so people can attend literacy classes, learn a trade, or get a small loan to rebuild their livelihood and become self-sufficient. By helping us you will be enabling people to build a more secure future for themselves and their children. You can also help Austcare raise awareness and increase understanding of the causes of poverty, whether it is conflict or natural disaster causing people to be displaced and in need of basic protection, or rebuilding livelihoods with the most excluded poor such as those affected by explosive remnants of war, including landmines and cluster bombs. How to get involved with AustcareCommunity groups across Australia have been involved with fundraising for Austcare, in a variety of different ways. A fundraising event can be anything from holding a BBQ or morning tea, to a cultural event or exhibition, a film night or an adventure. If you are holding a big event, we are happy to discuss how funds raised can be tied to a specific program, and Austcare will provide updates regarding how the money is being spent, and how the program is progressing. For example, you might like the funds you raise to go towards a landmine action program in Cambodia, or to agricultural livelihood recovery in Timor-Leste or Indonesia. In addition to raising funds, raising public awareness is a valuable exercise. Holding talks or providing information is effective in educating people who have never thought about the consequences of conflict and disaster, global displacement or landmine issues, or their prevention. Austcare's general fundraising guidelines are easy to understand and we encourage you if it suits your activity to use www.everydayhero.com.au/event/austcare to fundraise and engage your friends - it is great fun.
