Ban cluster bombs
The Hon Stephen Smith MP,
As the Minister for Foreign Affairs, I call on you to make cluster bombs a thing of the past.
I urge you to ban the production, stockpiling, transfer and use of this weapon of war.
Minister, please maintain your support for the international treaty to outlaw cluster bombs currently under negotiation and develop domestic legislation to stop these deadly munitions destroying communities around the world.
For almost 50 years, cluster bombs have killed and injured thousands of civilians and continue to do so today.
These are true weapons of mass destruction and we call on you to make Australia a leader in the battle to ban cluster bombs.
