Ban cluster bombs

Cluster bombs kill and injure people by indiscriminately scattering explosives over a vast area.  Difficult to control, they don’t distinguish between those fighting and innocent bystanders.  Found in more than 20 countries today, cluster bombs lie unexploded in the ground and hanging in trees for many years – waiting for somebody to disturb them.  Survivors often lose limbs and their eyesight.  Find out more

 

Make Poverty History

Thousands of individuals and organisations around the world have joined together to combine their resources, knowledge and voices to put an end to poverty forever. In Australia the Make Poverty History campaign is a coalition of over 70 development agencies working together.

The campaign calls on world leaders to honour their commitments to the Millennium Development Goals. In 2000, the world community endorsed the United Nations Millennium Declaration - a statement of commitment for a fairer, safer, world. All 191 member nations, both rich and poor, committed to achieving these goals.

Playing Fields Not Minefields

There are between 45 and 50 million landmines in the ground in almost 80 countries.  Every year, landmines cause an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 casualties among innocent men, women, and children.  Over half of all landmine victims die as a result of the initial explosion. Others are badly maimed, often requiring amputation. People living in mine affected areas risk their lives every day. Children cannot play safely. Families cannot farm, fetch water or take their produce to market.

By getting involved in Playing Fields Not Minefields you can support Austcare's work with local partners in clearing landmines and helping local people return to their land and become self-sufficient.
