Pakistan humanitarian emergency
Austcare has changed its name to ActionAid Australia For more information please visit the ActionAid website www.actionaid.org.au
An estimated two and a half million people have fled Pakistan's northwest districts of Buner, Swat and Dir in recent weeks, due to heavy fighting between the army and the Taliban.
The majority of people fled their homes with nothing more than the clothes they were wearing. The tide of civilians fleeing the fighting is the largest and swiftest migration of people to take place in recent years.
28 camps have been established in six districts to provide shelter and access to food, water and medical assistance.
Conditions in emergency camps, however, are desperate - people are struggling to survive in scorching heat without proper water supplies, sanitation, or health care. Clothes and hygiene kits are also urgently needed.
Of the displaced population, roughly 70 to 80 percent are children and youth.

Together with our partner ActionAid, we aim to provide vital supplies, such as food packs, medical kits and health care to thousands of vulnerable people. Women and children are the worst affected and will be a focus of our relief efforts.
ActionAid has been working in Pakistan since 1992 and now works with 60,000 of the country's poorest people, particularly small, landless farmers, women and urban poor people.
Please donate generously to Austcare. Your support will help us continue our important work in countries such as Pakistan.
