Week of Action to Ban Cluster Bombs – Resource Pack

April 19th – 27th

It’s estimated cluster bombs have killed or maimed more than ten thousand people around the world. Often the victims are children or other innocent civilians.

A cluster bomb works by opening in flight and covering an area with a series of smaller bomblets. Sometimes it’s the initial attack that claims unlucky residents, other times it’s disturbing a live bomblet that didn’t detonate on impact.

Laws to ban cluster bombs are currently being developed and Australia will join the final negotiations in May. Whether our Government agrees to sign the treaty depends on us making a stand and convincing the politicians Australians want this devastating weapon outlawed.

One of the easiest ways to get involved is to hold a ‘chalking event’. Simply get a group of people to lie down in a public place and have chalk outlines drawn around their bodies to illustrate how many innocent people fall victim to cluster bombs. This will not only get attention, but is a great chance to grab some signatures on the petition.

With the comprehensive pack of resources below it’s never been easier to make a stand. All you have to do is download and print.

The Week of Action is your chance to do something, because there will never be a better opportunity.
