Chief Executive Officer

Archie Law is a post conflict specialist who has worked in conflict affected environments throughout Asia, the Middle East and Africa during his career with the United Nations and non governmental organisations.
Archie is currently the Chief Executive Officer at Austcare, which suits Archie's passion for working with people affected by conflicts and natural disasters to make their worlds a better place. Before joining Austcare Archie worked with the United Nations Development Program's (UNDP) Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR) where he was employed as the Regional Conflict Prevention and Recovery Advisor (Africa) based in the UNDP Regional Service Centre for Southern and Eastern Africa in Johannesburg. Archie specialized in Mine Action and worked on conflict prevention and small arms and light weapons programming throughout Africa as well as being a member of the change management team that drove the change management process in UNDP/BCPR in 2006. Prior to this appointment he was working in policy development and inter agency coordination for the UN's Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) in New York. He was a member of the UN team that developed the contingency plan for an emergency response to the conflict in Iraq in 2002-2003. From 1998 to 2002 Archie managed the Cambodia Program for the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) where he was responsible for the oversight of a mine action program that had 500 staff members. From 1995 to 1998, Archie was employed by World Vision Australia (WVA) in their Emergency Relief Unit where he managed a portfolio of emergency relief projects. He published "A Hollow Success", which examined the repatriation and reintegration of refugees in Cambodia, whilst working for WVA.
In the earlier part of his career, Archie was a professional musician. The group he played with released three albums and gave over 500 live appearances throughout Australia.
Archie Law has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in which he specialized in international development and management. He obtained his Master of Arts in International Relations from Monash University in 2001. His thesis on "The UN, Regional Organisations and Conflict Prevention: Lesson learned from the FYROM and Rwanda" was awarded a high distinction.
Archie has worked in, or visited, the following countries during the course of his work; Angola, Burundi, Cambodia, Cyprus, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Guinea Bissau, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Lao PDR, Mauritania, Mozambique, Myanmar, Philippines, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Timor Leste, Thailand, Uganda.
Archie is married and has two children.
